The medical services offered from this hospital are accident and emergency, general medicine, surgery, gynaecology, breast screening, ICU and CCU, paediatrics, renal services and orthopaedics and psychiatry. The hospital is currently being refurbished including an upgrade of the swimming pool, a new library, BBQ facilities, and a Doctor's lounge with plasma TV's, computers, a pool table and bar.

The hospital is located in a progressive city of 45,000 surrounded by a patchwork of sugarcane fields with a catchment population of 120,000. It has a wide deep river and is popular as an Australian first port of entry for sea faring travellers.

The location is approximately 5.5 hours by road from Brisbane, Queensland State capital. Coastal resorts in the area provide excellent seaside holidays. For visitors eager to explore the wondrous Great Barrier Reef, day trips and overnight stays to the reef are available. It is a sports minded city and has produced many world-class athletes. The city features a relaxed lifestyle, and with its location on the sub-tropical central coast of Queensland, it has the fifth most equable climate in the world!
